Liani Holland

Paralegal

Liani is an accredited police station representative and assistant to Greg Powell in our Trade Union Criminal Defence Department. She has worked in criminal defence law since 1984 and joined Powell Spencer & Partners in August 2004.

Liani is noted for her sound judgement and excellent client care skills. During her many years of experience in criminal and trade union litigation she has worked with clients being investigated for, or facing charges, ranging from the least serious to the most grave. She most regularly represents those being investigated for offences alleged to have been committed in the course of their employment particularly within the rail industry. These are often for matters like assault, theft or fraud but also include Misconduct in Public Office and contrary to the Health & Safety Act 1974.

Her knowledge of the lesser known Railway Byelaws means that she can sometimes identify a defence that would not normally be available to a suspect. When representing clients she always has in mind how her advice may impact upon concurrent or future disciplinary proceedings.

Additionally, Liani has considerable experience in representing pilots and airline cabin crew referred to her after being arrested for excess alcohol offences contrary to the Railway and Transport Safety Act 2003.

Liani is also often asked to represent Licensed Taxi Drivers in appeals to their licencing authorities and related matters.

Client Testimonials

I just want to thank you for all your support over the last few years, you made a stressful time easier to manage, your advice personally at the police station and throughout has been very reassuring. You were the right person to have in my corner and I couldn’t have asked for a nicer lady to represent me.

— Mr. J

I cannot thank you enough Liani for your patience and sound advice. I will always be grateful that the union put me in touch with you and that you have been with me all the way. My manager called me the day after I was found not guilty and I am now back to normal duties. God bless you

— Miss V

If I ever find myself on the wrong side of the law again you’d be the only person I’d want to call but I apologise for those late at night and weekend messages.

— Mr. R

L was one of two pilots charged, and subsequently acquitted of Misconduct in Public Office, along with two police officers. This related to the alleged misuse of a police helicopter. The pilots were said to have facilitated the making of footage by a third police officer who had pleaded guilty to filming naked members of the public from the helicopter. .

R-v-D & anor. [Central Criminal Court]

D was found not guilty of causing death by dangerous driving. The issue was whether D, and another driver who hit and fatally injured a man who was crossing the road, were racing one another at the time when their vehicles were travelling at speed one second a part.

@PSPLawUK

RT @JanetDaby Today I called on the Government to do more to help criminal legal aid solicitors. Despite the warm words from @MoJGovUK many smaller firms are struggling financially and Tory cuts are making this situation worse.
