Mike has been qualified for 30 years and is now a consultant to PSP, having been a Partner at Powell Spencer and Partners between 1987 and 2011.
After starting in criminal defence work, Mike has, for the last 20 years, specialised in family work, particularly decisions about children. As a member of the Law Society Children Panel for 20 years he has represented hundreds of children who are subject to care proceedings brought by Local Authorities.
He has acted for many more parents, grandparents and other family members. He has a strong belief that children, if at all possible, should be brought up within their own families. He was for many years a member of the committee (and for two years the Chair) of the Family Rights Group, a leading and well-respected charity which has helped transform law and practice.
Almost invariably he undertakes all court appearances himself, only instructing a barrister in the most complex cases, or when he is unavailable through attending another hearings.
He aspires to bring to each case his experience, sympathetic and attentive consideration of the client’s point of view, commitment to pursuing cases vigorously, and a sound judgement as to what can be achieved through the court process.
