Accidents in Public Places
Local Authorities, businesses and owners of property have a duty to make sure that you are safe whenever you enter their property
If you have an accident in a public place, you could be entitled to compensation. It is not always easy to discover who should carry the responsibility for causing your accident but we will assist in identifying the correct defendant(s).
How We Can Help
— Trips and Slips on the Highways
— Accidents in shops and other Public Buildings
— Family members’ accidents (eg in schools, playgrounds, care homes etc)
— Accidents in areas owned or managed by local councils
Most of the accidents in public places claims that we handle are on a No Win No Fee basis, which means there’s nothing to pay upfront, and that you won’t have to pay any legal fees if your claim isn’t successful. If your claim succeeds, your opponent pays most of your legal fees, with anything outstanding (usually only an agreed success fee) coming out of your compensation.
As with other personal injury claims it is important to contact us as soon as possible after your accident. The limitation date (the last date on which you can take legal action against the guilty employer) is usually on the 3rd anniversary of the accident. There are some exceptions to this (for example the date that you became aware of the negligence) and we can explain the exceptions if they are relevant to your case.
