Graham Brierton was instructed by an elderly client regarding a serious injury sustained while working in a voluntary capacity for an organisation. Unfortunately the client had left the matter until 2 weeks before the expiry of the 3 year limitation period. Graham very quickly took instructions and issued protective proceedings obtaining an early admission of liability from the organisation’s insurers. We are pleased that within 7 months of starting the claim we recovered substantial damages for our grateful client.
A lesson to be learned is that claims like this should never be left until the last moment as it is not always possible to prepare a claim at such short notice.
Mark Troman assisted a man who had not instructed solicitors in advance of a magistrates’ court plea hearing. The sentence was imposed immediately after his plea at the first hearing and so he had not time to prepare a response to the application to destroy his beloved pet. When he came to us we were able to lodge the appeal before the order was carried out and then secured state funding for an experience veterinarian to assess the dog and her findings persuaded the judge to reverse the order on appeal and save the animal.
